HTC One X gets teenager fixes around program update

The HTC One X may happen to be the current flagship device of Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer HTC in addition to being considered as the most powerful smartphone in the world as of press time but this still is not enough to ensure that the handset remains relatively bug-free just like any mobile phone whether low-end or ultra high-end. The HTC One X also has the distinction of being the first handset in the world to be powered by a quad-core processor back when it was still known as the HTC Edge from late last year. The HTC One X just took a price cut to only $129 for all customers. The HTC One X may have enough punch under the hood to supply power to two smartphones but this still did not make it immune to bugs and issues and these has given the handset more than its fair share of coverage and digital ink in the past couple of days. And to be fair, HTC has come clean and confirmed that it is aware of the issues surrounding the handset and now, the manufacturer has rolled out a software update designed to eradicate some of the bugs present on the HTC One X. If you happen to have the international version of the HTC One X, you would have already noticed a notification … [Read more...]

Facebook IPO: is a smartphone subsequent on a bulletin for Zuckerberg?

With its flotation, many think that Facebook is now a juggernaut, sitting pretty on $16bn (£10bn) of cash and a valuation that started the day at more than $100bn.Friday's launch was fun (cue Zuckerberg's droll status update: "Mark Zuckerberg listed a company on Nasdaq") but there's a tendency to see stock market flotations as the culmination of a company's existence. That's a common mistake, like first parents being excited about the baby's birth, and forgetting it's the next bit that really matters. It has taken eight years to get here, yet it's easy to forget that this is actually just the beginning. What to expect now? Don't be surprised if the next big thing is a Facebook phone – running its own software and developed from top to bottom to involve you in the site all the time.Zuckerberg's team has been advised to do this directly, because it needs to reach the "next billion" internet users, and they are mainly going to be using mobile phones, not desktop or laptop computers. Selling its own phone would mean it could make itself the background hum of many peoples' lives everywhere – and show adverts and collect data on its own terms. When Google floated in 2004, everyone knew … [Read more...]

T-Mobile Magenta Deal Days: Buy One 4G Smartphone, Get Another Free

T-Mobile is still expanding its 4G HSPA+ network to new locales, but wider network coverage isn’t worth a single-bar signal without subscribers to use all that new bandwidth. That explains the carrier’s new Magenta Deal Days promotion where customers new and old can support Team Tmo with a “buy one, get one free” deal for 4G smartphones. As described in an advertising circular uncovered by TmoNews, the limited-time offer kicks off tomorrow, Friday May 18, and continues to next Saturday, May 26–it also requires a two-year service contract.  The not-so bad news is that the deal is limited to “select devices only”. The good news: that list includes the Samsung Galaxy S II, one of the phones highlighted in our Top 10 Smartphones Now list. It includes other competitive devices like the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, the HTC Amaze 4G, Samsung Exhibit II 4G, and T-Mobile myTouch. One device that’s conspicuously absent from the list is the HTC One S, a recent addition to the carrier’s line-up and one of T-Mobile’s most compelling devices thanks to it’s Android 4.0 operating system, speedy camera, and attractive design. Even without that device, Magenta Deal Days … [Read more...]
